What are psychoeducational assessments?
Psychoeducational assessments are tests to determine if there is a difference between a person's performance and their ability. We complete testing to help a person better understand themselves, to determine if there is an attention, learning, or psychological difficulty, and get additional help or services, if needed.
I've been recommended for testing, what does this mean?
Being recommended for testing means that someone has identified an area in which you are having difficulties; this could be academically, professionally, socially, or personally. At some point in time we all have difficulties in life and testing can help us understand these quicker and get help faster.
Why is testing important?
As with any problems in life, understanding what the problem is, and the scope of the problem is the first step in finding a solution. When testing is completed, we can find immediate solutions to create long-term results.
What is the process of getting tested?
The tester, the legal caregivers (if a tester is under 18) , and I will meet to sign consent, answer questions, and get information about the tester's history. The rest of the time will be spent testing. It will take roughly 1-2 weeks to write a report of the results, then everyone will meet again to discuss the findings.
What are attention difficulties/testing?
Attention difficulties are ADHD-inattentive type, ADHD-hyperactive type, or ADHD- combined type. Testing consists self-report, report from others, and assessments that measure both the inattention and hyperactivity symptoms of Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder (ADHD).
What are psychological difficulties/ testing?
Some examples of psychological difficulties are anxiety or depression. Testing for these is a combination of self-report, report from others, and assessments.
What are learning difference/disabilities testing?
Examples of learning differences (LD) are dyslexia (difficulty reading), dyscalculia (difficulty with math), and dysgraphia (difficulty with writing). LD testing compares ones ability with where they are performing. Any difference could be explained by a learning disability.
