Trekking

There are several pony trekking options in the area and Hay Tourist Information Centre has more information.

Llama trekking in Ewyas Harold, (yes really!) eight miles away from The Firs. Never tried it but sounds interesting!

Cycle hire

Hire bikes in Hay on Wye from Drover Holidays or in Abergavenny from Hopyard Cycles. They should be able to advise on interesting routes suitable for your needs. For some longer ones try:

Four castles cycle route: a 32 mile (52km) circular route is entirely on roads and takes in the castles of Abergavenny, White Castle, Skenfrith and Grosmont.

On the water

Cruise the Monmouthshire and Brecon Canal on a narrow boat. Can be hired from Beacon Park Boats or Castle Narrow Boats, both based near Abergavenny

There are a number of places around Glasbury and Hay on Wye to hire kayaks or canoes to explore the river Wye. These include Celtic Canoes, Want to canoe and Black Mountain Activities.

For those rare rainy days!

There are leisure centres and swimming pools in Abergavenny, Brecon and Hereford.

Llangrose Multi Activitiy Centre offers indoor climbing among other things.
