The Firs, built at a time when people were shorter, is full of character, featuring exposed oak beams, thick stone walls and original flag stones. For further information about the facilities have a look at the accessibility page or download our access statement as a pdf.

The Firs sleeps up to seven and has:

  • two double bedrooms
  • one twin room (adjoins one of the double rooms)
  • single bedroom
  • a cot which we can put up for your arrival if you let us know in advance if you need it.

All bed linen, pillows and duvets are provided but please bring your own towels.

In addition there is a shower room with a toilet and an airing cupboard from which the oil fired central heating is operated, providing year round warmth.

You will find a flat screen TV (with Freesat), a blu-ray DVD player, a Sony mini hi-fi with DAB radio and a ipod dock (as well as a cable to attach other mp3 players unless it's gone walkabout) and a digital radio. The large dining table at the other end of the room, seats eight comfortably.

The kitchen is fully equipped to cater for up to eight people and has:

  • electric oven
  • washing machine
  • dishwasher
  • microwave
  • fridge-freezer

Just off the kitchen is the porch, where the wood for the stove is stored and plenty of space for coats, shoes and wellies.

Downstairs there is also a recently refurbished family bathroom, with a toilet, bath and sink.

The Firs is surrounded by fields and mountains and has its own enclosed south facing garden to sit in to admire the view. Wooden garden furniture, parasol and a barbecue are provided.

You are welcome to explore the fields surrounding the cottage, which run down to the Olchon brook. If you bring your pets please keep them under control as there are usually sheep around (and occasionally the farmer!).

There is also plenty of space for parking and turning cars.

Other information

Mobile phone reception is a bit patchy so if you need to be in contact, its probably not the place for you!

Please remember that spiders, insects and mice are part of country life and although we do our best to ensure their absence, we cannot guarantee that you won't see them.

As in many old houses, there are many steps, the ceilings are low and the stairs are quite steep and narrow. This didn't deter one elderly guest who came down it on her bum but if this isn't your style please bear this in mind and contact us if you have any questions.
