option 1: Buy or Rent? (any time during semester)
Is it better to buy a house or rent a house?
Student will demonstrate the competencies for Economics based on completion of
the following project:
1. Research all aspects of buying and renting a house. Compare and contrast these
two options.
2. As part of your research, interview a person who works professionally in some
aspect of real estate. Ask this professional about the pros and cons of renting or
buying a house. Also ask about the process of renting and the process of buying.
3. Write an essay (5-7 paragraphs) describing what you learned. Include:
. The pros, cons, and process of renting a house
. The pros, cons, and process of buying a house
. A comparison. Which is better? Why?
. How this applies to your life
Option 2: United States Money (any time during semester)
Topic: Tracking the history of U.S. currency.
Students will demonstrate the competencies for Economics based on completion of the following project:
1. Research all aspects of U.S. Currency. Layout the history in a visual presentation.
2. Items illustrated will need to include: visual representation, dates issued, materials used, security against counterfeit money, etc
3. Display your information in poster form, power point, or classroom show and tell.
4. Accuracy, completeness, and appearance will be the grade standards.
Option 3: Circular Flow Model of a Mixed Economy (Chapters 1-2 time frame ONLY)
Illustrate and understand a mixed economy like the United States.
Students will:
1. Construct a full sized, illustrated, labeled flow chart like the one on text p. 40 on poster board.
2. Accuracy, completeness, and appearance will be the grade requirements.
