Expression of interest for a trader space at Capital FibreFest for 2025 are Now closed.
Capital FibreFest will be Saturday 10 May 2025 - 10-3pm at Whirinaki Whare Taonga, Upper Hutt, Wellington.
What is the Capital FibreFest event? Capital FibreFest event is a maker’s market that cares about making yarn, fibre, wool and craft related items and the crafting community. We aim to minimise barriers so as to make wool and fibre crafting and products as accessible and available to as wide a demographic of the community as possible. Capital FibreFest is a community centric event that allows members of the community to come and socialise, learn new skills and chat with experienced crafters, catch up with friends, and purchase fibre, yarn and wool for any of their creative outputs. We try and ensure a wide range of wool ply, fibre type, dyeing techniques and product ranges is available for the attendees. It is a hybrid event taking elements of a traditional spin-in and trader market.
Balance - To meet the various crafty needs of the attendees we have an equal number of stalls available for traders selling:
a) commercial yarns and equipment,
b) raw and processed fleece and fibre, and
c) indie dyers.
Each year the split is dependent of number of applications for each trader category and we aim for approximately 10 for each of the three table options:
Depending on expressions of interest this may be adjusted if unused tables exist in any particular category.
Costs – We aim to keep costs to traders as low possible. There are no refunds except in the case of an extraordinary cancellation by the organisers or venue. Upto and including 2025 We offer a table with chairs; some table may have more space around them depending on location.
· For the price we will be:
o providing you with the table(s) and 1-2 chairs,
o promoting FibreFest through Whirinaki Whare Taonga,
o promoting FibreFest and your attendance through our website, Facebook & Instagram,
o paying for promotion of the event on social media in the weeks up to the event,
o distribute advertising flyers in the Wellington area,
o free WiFi - it is an unsecured network so check if your EFTPOS will work and have data available if not,
o providing you with free tea and coffee during the day, lunch bags can be ordered nearer the time via Blue Carrot catering (~$18 including gst).
Please note that we are considering offering a space with the option to have tables included or not for following years.
Trader Expectations - We expect traders to be inclusive by maintaining a respectful, positive, kind and professional attitude to anyone attending the event and to the event at all times including on any social media or in-person promotions and discussions. Capital FibreFest has a large turnout and diverse community attendance and therefore you need to be respectful and be kind to all visitors, volunteers and traders, appreciating that their views and lifestyle choices on a wide range of topics may not align with your own. If you have any questions just get in touch. We reserve the right to reject attendance of traders who have acted unprofessionally towards the event, members of Upper Hutt Spinners and Weavers or the volunteer organisers.
Next Steps -
Expressions of interest are generally open through October and November, we advertise this on our facebook and instagram pages, so follow us to be updated when expressions are open. The top of this page and our "Traders Expression of Interest" page will tell you whether expressions of interest are open or not. We do not guarantee a place or attendance at the expressions of interest stage. There are generally more traders than places, although we are looking at ways to maximise the number of traders.
Expressions are validated against the criteria and formal offers will be made in early December each year and may be of a different size to that which you requested.
