Central District Chairmen

2024 District Chairmen (updated 11/30/23)

Chairmen are to give annual, oral reports at the spring district meeting.  Reports are not to exceed three (3) minutes. For most chairmen, information for reporting can be gathered from the Club President’s Reports, posted here.   A copy of each report is to be given to the district director, district secretary, and an electronic copy is sent to the district webmaster.  Reported information as well as related articles are often published in the district newsletters which go to club presidents. 

Audit:  Joan Eads,  joaneads@sbcglobal.net, Eldon Garden Club

Audit committee shall audit the treasurer's books within thirty (30) days of the end of  the fiscal year (December 31) and make a report at the next district meeting.


Awards:  Betty Connelly, bettyconnellywi@yahoo.com, Columbia Garden Club

Responsible for judging of yearbooks of Central District clubs and forwarding yearbooks scoring 95 or higher to the State Yearbook Chairman.

 

Birds/Butterflies:   Unfilled

Responsible for gathering information regarding Central clubs’ participation with birds and/or butterflies, keeps certification forms available, and assists clubs with application process.

 

Blue Star Memorial:  Cynthia Brodersen,  cyd050@gmail.com, Grow and Glow Garden Club

Gathers information regarding Central clubs’ participation in the program and assists clubs in establishing markers.


Conservation/Forestry:  Unfilled 

Also serves as FGCM Forestry Chairman. Gather information regarding conservation issues at local, state, national, and worldwide levels; serves on Missouri Community Forestry Council, and sets up displays at FGCM state convention.


Educational Display:  Marinea Mehrhoff, murn54@gmail.com,  Lake Bloomers Garden Club

Coordinates construction of the district’s educational display for FGCM state convention and for Missouri State Fair.

 

Flower Shows:  Marie Pasley,  smpasley@aol.com, Columbia Garden Club

Gathers information regarding flower shows held in district.  Assists clubs in obtaining judges, writing flower show schedule, etc.

 

Garden Center:  Tanya Stanley, ladybug.stanley@gmail.com, Lake Bloomers Garden Club

Gathers information on clubs’ participation with garden centers.  Recommend books on gardening and provides helpful hints on the utilization of garden centers.

 

Garden Therapy:  Virginia Rice, tvrice01@yahoo.com, Eldon Garden Club

Gathers information and encourages clubs to participate in garden therapy.


Historian:  PENDING


Horticulture/Landscape Design:  Unfilled

Gathers information regarding clubs’ related activities, provides information on new publications or helpful tools, informs clubs regarding upcoming Garden Study Courses and Landscape Design Schools.

 

Invasive Plants:  Alice Longfellow, alicelgc@gmail.com, Capital Garden Club

Reports updates on invasive plant list, plants to avoid, and dates/locations for relevant, upcoming workshops and programs.

 

Membership:  Alice Havard,  aehavard@yahoo.com, Columbia Garden Club

Collects district data regarding clubs’ membership, encourage recruitment of new members by suggesting various recruitment strategies.

 

Poetry:  Mary Bullock,  webjeepn1@gmail.com, Lake Bloomers

Obtains NGC Poetry Contest information, provides instructions to clubs, and reports clubs’ participation.

 

Scholarship:  Jeannine Brickey, jeannineebrickey@gmail.com, Bittersweet Garden Club

Gathers information on clubs that give scholarships and encourages clubs to participate in state scholarship program.  Sends the number of clubs and amounts given in scholarships to the state scholarship chairman.

 

Smokey Bear/Woodsy Owl:  Karen Davis, kldavis1949@gmail.com, Centralia Flower and Garden Club

Obtains information on NGC poster contests and forwards to club presidents.  Should be done in summer so school children and others have time to finish posters by due date. Judges posters submitted and sends winners from each category on to state chairman.

 

Ways and Means:  Unfilled

Coordinates a Ways and Means sale of garden-related items at all district meetings.  Collects money and sends to district treasurer following each meeting.


Webmaster:  Cindy Sebacher, mrs_sockie@hotmail.com  (mrs_sockie@hotmail.com), Fulton Garden Club

Updates the district website with information provided by central district garden club officers, chairmen, and club presidents.

 

Wildflowers:  Barbara Rothenberger,  br972@centurytel.net, Columbia Garden Club

Gathers information regarding club participation in wildflower projects, programs, and activities.  Gives clubs suggestions on projects and resources for using wildflowers in the landscape.

 

World Gardening:  Jeanne Schwaller,  mopepino@aol.com, Capital Garden Club

Compiles information regarding club participation in world gardening projects.  Identifies appropriate world gardening endeavors, and informs clubs of ways they might participate as a district or individually.

 

Youth Projects:  Carolyn Doyle,  carolyndoyle@netscape.net, Columbia Garden Club

Gather information regarding Central District clubs who conduct youth gardening programs and/or projects.  Give suggestions on gardening activities to use with youth and encourage club participation with youth gardening activities.
