Rutgers Squash Club
The Rutgers Squash Club (RSC) represents a revival of Squash on the Rutgers Campus! The RSC includes Faculty and Alumni who played for the Recreational and Intercollegiate Teams of the former Rutgers University Squash Racquets Club (RUSRC) from 2005 - 2007. They are all active Players on the RSC Recreational Team. The RSC just played and lost its inaugural match with the Lawrenceville (School) Squash Club in a close (3-4) result. The RSC is led by Professor (of the SMLR/Rutgers) and Head Coach Charles Heckscher and Captains Vinod Sankar and Mohsin Khalfan. They are actively supported by Associate Professor (of the NJIT/Rutgers) and Assistant Coach Gareth Russell and Adjunct Assistant Professor and Principal Investigator (of the CINJ/Rutgers and the Life Sciences Institute) and Assistant Coach Ferez Nallaseth as well as Manager/Players James Butler and MacDale Elwin.
With 2 narrow courts (18.5') on campus, several regulation size (21') courts available in the neighborhood and plans for Racquetball Conversion (20') courts on campus the RSC is well placed to host an Intercollegiate Team. We have an active schedule planned for the Summer with local Clubs and will be playing Universities, Colleges and High Schools in the Fall.
The RSC is actively seeking High School students graduating in the summer of 2013 or Undergraduate Collegiate Players to reconstitute the Rutgers Intercollegiate Team for the CSA (Collegiate Squash Association's (National) Championships. The Division of play of the RSC in the CSA will depend on the numbers and levels of players and qualifying season performances. Interested applicants should contact Professor Charles Heckscher or any of the other Team Members through their email addresses listed below.

Charles Heckscher is a professor in the School of Management and Labor Relations at Rutgers. He played varsity squash at Harvard in the Cretaceous era (narrow courts, wooden rackets), where he was soundly beaten by some high-level players. He was dragged back on court by his children years later and is now a somewhat rickety club player with hardball drop shots. He was one of the founding members, sponsors and coaches of the previous Rutgers University Squash Racquets Club (2005-2008). As Coach/Rutgers Faculty Member Charles has taken responsibility for its direct descendent the current Rutgers Squash Club. Together with current Co-Captains, Vinod Sankar (2005-2006 Rutgers Recreational Squash Team Player) and Mohsin Khalfan (2006 Rutgers Intercollegiate Squash Team Captain) he will be directing match schedules, administrative and recruitment efforts of the Rutgers Squash Club.

(7) Results of Rutgers Squash Club Matches:
(1) Inaugural Rutgers Squash Club at Lawrenceville (School) Squash Club - 8th June 2013.
(A) Report by Coach Gareth Russell To Be Posted.
The RSC played its first match of its revival with a 3-4 loss but in a good showing to the LSC.
Ferez Nallaseth (R) vs. Arslan Mian (L) = 1 - 3.In a rematch of some years ago Arslan reversed his score against Ferez with his trademark lightning quick reverse corners and power drives. In the first game, after jumping to a 5-0 lead Arslan was driven deep into the corners with tight medium pace rails and went on to lose the game 12-15. In the second game he did not make that mistake closing it out 15-9 by cutting off and volleying lobs. The third game saw Arslan again jump ahead to 4-0 and 9-6 leads but Ferez tied it up 13-13 before Arslan closed it out 18-15 winning the match 3-1. The 4th game, like the match, was competitive but Arslan was not to be denied and wrapped it up 15-13. The difference this time was match conditioning with the resultant errors by Ferez costing him the match.
Charles Heckscher v Richard Levine.Charles Heckscher lost 3-1 to Richard Levine’s unusual array of very accurate and deceptive drops and dinks from every part of the court. The games were pretty consistent: very short rallies, quick kills by Levine. In the second game Levine made a number of errors and therefore lost it;. otherwise his shots continually surprised Heckscher.
Gareth Russell vs Yahya Ladiwala .Gareth Russell played Yehya Ladiwala. The first game was close, going point for point to 10-10. After that Gareth was able to press just enough to wrap it up 13-11. The second game started with a run of points from Yahya, but Gareth reasserted his grip on the game to catch up and win 11-8. The third game was similar, with Gareth emerging the victor 3-0 from a game that was closer than that score suggests.
James Butler v Rick Kelleher. James showed his deep game and quick improvisation to win 3-0 over Rick.
Mohsin Khalfan v Jackson Rho. In one of the two the tightest matches of the day, the fluid strokes and moves of Jackson were not enough to contain Mohsin who finished with a 3-2 win.
MacDale Elwin v Stephen King. In a mirror image of the fifth match experience showed over youth and a Dr. MacDale Elwin still not quite in the game went down fighting to Stephen King.
Vinod Sankar v Denise Pencari. In the last match of the day Denise was too strong for match organizer (along with Charles and Mohsin for the RSC) Vinod who lost 0-3.
