We (myself, Dean SST Dr. Atif Alvi, Dean SMC Dr. Anjum, Dr. Jameel Ahmed, et al.) visited ITU on the invitation of Dean Dr. Arif Mahmood to explore their research lab facilities, including the AR/VR Lab and other cutting-edge research centers. Our delegation had the opportunity to meet with the Vice Chancellor of ITU Dr. Adnan Noor Mian, where we exchanged a wealth of ideas on innovation, research collaborations, and future academic partnerships. The visit provided valuable insights into ITU's advanced research infrastructure and ongoing projects, fostering the potential for enhanced cooperation between our institutions.
I visited NUCES-FAST, Lahore as an External Evaluator for their Self Assessment Visit.
I enjoyed meeting with the Chair, Deans, Campus Director (Vice Chancellor), and Head office of NUCES-FAST, Lahore on various aspects of the Data Science Program evaluation. Various topics including program curriculums, course outlines, admission criteria, academic quality, student intake, infrastructure and lab facilities, faculty research honorarium, salary appraisals, and computing facilities were discussed.
It was a great experience altogether. I must say that the MS Data Science Program of NUCES FAST is going in the right direction to achieve its high academic goals and excellence in academic quality under the leadership of Dr. Aamir Wali, and Dr. Kashif Zafar.
Today I gave a talk at ICOSST 2022 Research Conference at the University of Engineering and Technology, Lahore, Pakistan. The title of the talk was 'Driver Drowsiness Detection with Region-of-Interest Selection Based Spatio-Temporal Deep Convolutional-LSTM'. I met with a few very interesting Professors including Dr. Ali Imran.
Dr. Ali Imran is (full) Professor of Cyber-Physical Systems at James Watt School of Engineering, at the University of Glasgow. He is also Williams is Professor (tenured) of Telecommunications and Networking, and Presidential Professor in ECE, and the founding director of the AI4Networks Research Center at the University of Oklahoma (OU), USA.
I was invited by NUCES FAST Lahore as a Subject Specialist at Selection Board to conduct faculty interviews and hire them. We hired 18 faculty members for NUCES FAST Lahore. The people sitting with me are Vice Chancellor (NUCES FAST), Campus Director Dr. Hammad, Head of CS Department Dr. Kashif Zafar, Head of SE Department Dr. Aamir Wali, and Head of Data Science Department Dr. Farooq Ahmed.
I was invited as a Keynote Speaker at the WFAR Research Conference held on October 20-21, 2022 at the University of Lahore.
Many Speakers from Germany (Prof Karlsten, two of his PhD Scholars), NUST, LUMS (Dr. Hassan Jaleel, Dr. Mian Muhammad Awais), COMSAT, BUITEMS (Dr. Anayatullah Baloch, Director ORIC) gave their talks.

I represented UMT as a judge in the ACM ICPC Asia Topi Programming Competition 2021-2022, held at GIKI, Topi. Alhamdulillah, the Preliminary Programming Competition took place on January 25-26, 2022, with 141 teams participating, of which 47 were selected for the 2021 ICPC Asia Topi Regional Onsite Contest on March 19-20, 2022. This mega event was a huge success, featuring around 47 teams from various universities across Pakistan. The top teams will advance to the ACM World Finals, which is expected to be held in the USA. Last year, approximately 50,000 students from 3,000 universities in 111 countries competed in this prestigious event (https://icpc.global/).

GCU Lahore invited Syed Farooq Ali as a Judge in their Software Competition APEX held on April 05, 2017. The engineering students from different universities including Information Technology University Lahore (ITU) put on display their self-made smart devices, robots and innovative technologies at the Annual Projects Exhibition (APEX 2017), organized by the Electrical Engineering Department of Government College University Lahore.
Speaking on the occasion, Vice Chancellor Prof Dr Hassan Amir Shah said these students representing different universities had worked hard on over the past semester or two on these projects ranged from power electronics to surveillance and embedded systems.

It is indeed an honor to apprise you that two Projects of Computer Science Dept, SST, UMT have earned Medals in 6th Innovation Summit 2017 on March 08-09 held in University of Punjab Lahore.
I feel enthusiastic to announce that the project Optical Mark Reader (OMR) has earned a Medal and Certificate for CS, SST, UMT in 6th Innovation Summit 2017 on March 08-09 held in University of Punjab Lahore. The project was supervised by myself and Dr. Malik Tahir Hassan.
6th Innovation Summit had a display of 500+ innovative projects by academia and industries. It included awards especially SATHA Innovation Award and certificates for technology presenters. The ultimate goal of summit is to become a platform where industry will buy and license out technologies exhibited and presented by academia.
Please note that we have tested OMR by grading different quizses/exams in UMT and its result came out to be very accurate. The project is currently given to ORIC for finding potential buyers. ORIC is currently dealing with 'Association for Academic Quality in Pakistan (AFAQ)'. AFAQ is doing pilot testing of our project and right now we have marked their 5000 result sheets using OMR. UMT is also doing pilot testing of this project for the automation of its Faculty Feedback System.
1) Our rice project titled "Rice Grain Analyzer" won the Rector Award for Research and Innovation in the recently Convocation of year 2016. I was the supervisor of this project.
Our research paper titled "Development and implementation of Image Processing based Algorithms for Vehicle Velocity Estimation and their comparison" got accepted in "International Conference on Innovative Computing (ICIC) 2016". I presented the paper in ICIC 2016 held on September September 23-24, 2016 in UMT Lahore, Pakistan. The ICIC is a multi-topic conference focusing on a broad range of innovative computing methods and their applications.
ACM-ICPC Programming Competition (at International level) was held in UMT, Lahore in November 2016. Mr. Farooq Ali has served as Judges Coordinator in this competition. He has been awarded Souvenir (Shield).

ACM-ICPC Programming Competition was held in UCP, Lahore in May 2016 at National Level. Mr. Farooq Ali was invited as a Chief Judge for this event. It has been the third time that Mr. Farooq Ali served as a Judge in this event. When ACM ICPC event started for the first time in November 2014 at international level, Mr. Farooq was invited as a Judge in that event and hence he laid down the foundation of this programming competition.

Group Photo with NUCES-FAST Director Dr. Zafar and Chairperson Mr. Shafiq Ur Rahman during WFAR-7 (The 7th International Workshop on Field and Assistive Robotics) held on October 17-18. The aim of the workshop was to bring researchers together and address open issues in all aspects of field and assistive robotics in the outdoor environments. The workshop included talks, presentations, posters and demos from international and national researchers.
INMIC 2013 invited UMT Students (Muhammad Muaz, Alizae, Fatima and Ehsan Anjum), Director Projects/Assistant Professor Syed Farooq Ali and Assistant Professor Noman Nazar for a paper presentation in their conference held on December 2013 in UET, Lahore. As a result, two papers got published.

The software competition held at UMT in April 2013 that was arranged by Myself, Noman Nazar (Assistant Professor), Asma Naseer (Assistant Professor) and Saira Osama (Assistant Professor). Judges from different universities were invited in this event. The Chief Judge Dr. Kashif (Associate Professor, NUCES-FAST, Lahore) also graced the occasion with his presence.
UMT TV invited myself, Mr. Noman Nazar (Assistant Professor) and our BS FYP students (Isra Anwar, Ehsan Anjum, Touqeer, Mohsin) for an interview. In an interview, different questions were asked regarding our two project titled 'Optical Mark Reader' and 'Attendance System using Face Recognition'.
My BS FYP students won Shield and first position in LUMS CATAR 2012 Software Competition. They got 1st position in Innovative Idea Category. 150 students from different reputable universities including NUST, COMSAT, GIKI, LUMS etc., participated. Out of those 150 students, 75 students were selected and our group got 1st position in CATAR Innovative Idea category.
