Grading for all students will be based mainly on weekly assignments that will be graded as acceptable or not and not otherwise corrected (although we may give comments on the R script, time allowing). Once assignments are due and completed (1/2 credit), an answer key will be unlocked that contains the instructors' solutions to the problem (which are not necessarily unique solutions!). The second part of each assignment (1/2 credit) will be a self-evaluation, in which students assess how they did one the assignment (completed, no problems; completed with problems but now understand what went wrong; still lost and need help).
Graduate students will be expected to apply methods to analysis of data and construction of models relevant to their own studies (e.g., using field data from a thesis study, obtained from colleagues, or derived from published archives) and to present their results in a written report and oral presentation at the end of the semester.
