The Fairystone Volunteer Fire Department formed in 1978 as a substation from Woolwine Volunteer Fire Department. Henry Craig, in loving memory, donated the land for the fire station to use. The brick front station is used for yearly fire department fundraisers through country breakfasts, hamburger steak dinner, and cash giveaway. This station is also used for monthly fire department and first responder members meetings and trainings as well as the ladies auxiliary members meetings. The Patrick County Sheriffs office uses this fire station as its substation and for community crime watch meetings. This station is also available for public use such as for family reunions, parties, wedding receptions, and other gatherings in which the public is not charged for use of the facility however, a donation is much appreciated. The brick front station housed the fire department's equipment until 2012 when construction started on the new metal building that now holds the fire trucks and first responder units.
