Fabrizio Lirer (1970) studied geology at the Naples Federico II University. He graduated in 1994 and continued his research through a variety of positions: at Pisa University (1995-1999) as grant researcher, at Parma University (1999-2002) as PhD student and at IAMC-CNR in Naples as postdoc position (2003-2004) and as research grant (2005-2006). In 2007, He took a permanent position at CNR in Earth Science and in 2021 He acquired the position of Associate Professor at Dipartimento di Scienze della Terra of University of Rome La Sapienza. He participated in several Mediterranean onland expeditions to sample Neogene marine sedimentary sequences to investigate the influence and evolution of astronomically-forced climate changes and to extend back to the base of the Neogene the Mediterranean planktonic foraminiferal biostratigraphy. In addition, He also participated in Mediterranean oceanographic cruises to the Tyrrhenian and Adriatic seas, Sicily Channel and in Sardinia focused to study late Quaternary Mediterranean records to reconstruct past climate oscillation. From 2005, he became Secretary of the Regional Committee on Mediterranean Neogene Stratigraphy (RCMNS), from 2013 voting member of the Subcommission on Quaternary Stratigraphy (SQS) and from 2020 voting member of the Subcommission on Neogene Stratigraphy (SNS).
