BloBiForM stands for "Block neutral models of Biodiversity to support Forest Management". It is funded by a ANR JCJC grant. It will start on July 2020, and last 42 months. The project aims at assessing whether modulating the spatial distribution of basal cavities within managed forest provides a relevant management tool for the conservation of cavicolous taxonomic and functional biodiversity. On the one hand, we will use innovative methods (environmental DNA & mechanistic analysis of diversity patterns) to assess how the spatio-temporal distribution of basal cavities affect the associated biodiversity. On the other hand, we will study how far local managers can modulate basal cavities spatial distribution, questioning the potential technical and economical obstacle to a fine management of these tree microhabitats. The project is based on the case study of the Gresigne forest, in south-west France.
