Please look to the wing tutorial for a slightly more in depth walk through of how the plushie wings are made. There is also a resources page which list sites I have used to buy some of my materials from ^^
Starting with the paper pattern...
the pieces are then drawn on to the fur and cur out with sewing allowance.
Some of the fur will need to be shorter in areas such as the muzzle and paw pads. I pre-shave down these bits using a longer guard that the final one I will use once the plushie is made.
The pieces are pinned and the larger parts and darts are sewn using a sewing machine. The smaller darts, face pieces and fiddly bits like the sloes of the feet are hand sewn.
The head is being worked on. Black Anchor pearl cotton is used to create the cleft and pull in the upper mouth.
The nose is fitted on with the safety backing. The backs of the eyes are painted with acrylic and plastic eyelids are put on. The two tone colour around the eye is cut from two pieces of fur. The touching edges are hot glued together and then the piece is glued on the back of the eyes. The fur is trimmed down accordingly. The eyes (with the fur added )are then attached with the safety backings and the edges of the fur glued down.
Body and head is stuffed and sewn together.
The tail, forehead markings and head fur is sewn on.
The paw pads are cut out and hot glue gunned on.
The pieces of the wings are marked out on the felt. (I haven't shown it here but I use a paper pattern like in the Wing walk through).
It took about 4 hours to draw and cut out all 120 pieces that the wings consisted of.
The feather barrs are glued together to create each feather side.
All the feathers glued and ready to be sandwiched.
The cords are glued in the Primaries.
The Primaries and Secondaries layers glued together.
Complete wing assembled. It took around 4-5 hours again to make all the parts into finished wings.
The scales are cut out of thick felt. They are then covered by fleece, which is cut and folded in and glued on the underside.
Completed scales. I glued them into 3-5 piece blocks.
The blocks of scales are then glued on to the plushie. The claws are also made out of fleece and glued on.
The ears are sewn on. The antlers are made out of felt, stuffed and sewn on.
The wings are sewn on. This is done last so they don't get in the way when I'm doing other parts of the plushie.
The muzzle and forehead detail gets it's final shave and scissor trim. A little extra shaping is done on the face. The tongue is glued in and the plushie is finished!
