General
Q: What is Eversport Volleyball?
A: Eversport Volleyball offers after school volleyball clinics and leagues and has been promoting volleyball in the Evergreen area of San Jose since 2014. Our goal is to build a supportive community that provides a positive environment for players to develop their skills. All ability levels are welcome. Our leagues and clinics are typically for 5th-8th graders.
-----------------
Q: Who are the coaches?
A: The coaches have decades of experience between them coaching school teams at Chaboya Middle School, Quimby Oak Middle School, and Silver Creek High School. They genuinely want to see the players improve and do things the right way in the early parts of their volleyball journey, therefore enabling them to have lots of room for growth.
Club Teams
Q: What is a club volleyball team?
A: A club volleyball team is a collection of players that practice together for much of the year and play in tournaments against other club teams. Teams are typically separated by age, skill level, and gender. A club volleyball team is an easy way for volleyball players to be able to play volleyball nearly year round while being under the tutelage of an experienced coach.
-----------------
Q: Will Eversport Volleyball have boys and girls club teams?
A: This depends on where there is the most interest. We might end up with just boys, just girls, or both. Help us gauge interest by answering some questions.
-----------------
Q: Are Eversport Volleyball Club teams a new thing?
A: Yes, there is an amazing volleyball community in the Evergreen area of San Jose, but there are no local volleyball clubs in Evergreen, so Eversport decided to provide an opportunity for local kids to join a volleyball club with great coaches without having to travel so far.
-----------------
Q: What age groups will Eversport Volleyball have teams for?
A: This detail is still being worked out. We are considering ages 11-15 for now but are open to other ages and trying to gauge interest. Help us gauge interest by answering some questions.
-----------------
Q: Where will Eversport Volleyball Club hold team practices?
A: This detail is still being worked out. Our best guess at this point is they will be held at Chaboya Middle School most of the time.
-----------------
Q: When will tryouts for Eversport Volleyball Club teams begin?
A: This detail is still being worked out. Our best guess is that they will be held sometime in the second half of the summer.
-----------------
Q: Will Eversport Volleyball Club teams only be for students in the Evergreen School District?
A: No, the teams are open to anybody.
-----------------
Q: Will Eversport Volleyball Club teams only be for advanced players?
A: No. We want to field as competitive a team as possible right away, yet we also hope to have multiple teams separated by gender, skill level, and age. Details are still being worked out. Help us gauge interest by answering some questions.
-----------------
Q: Will Eversport Volleyball Club teams play in local tournaments or will overnight travel be necessary.
A: This depends on both the skill level of our players and where there is the most interest. Help us gauge interest by answering some questions.
-----------------
Q: How will Eversport Volleyball Club teams be coached differently from other club teams.
A: Our goal is to turn players into complete and intelligent players. For players with less experience, there will be more focus on individual skills than you typically get at other clubs. It is very important to our coaches that the players not only learn the HOWs of volleyball, but more importantly that they learn the WHYs. This applies to both individual skills as well as team skills like positioning.
Clinics
Q: I’m not sure which level I should sign up for. Can you help me decide?
A: If you are not sure, we suggest signing up for the beginner/intermediate session. If the coaches believe that you may benefit more from the other session, we’ll offer you the option to move up. Similarly, if you sign up for the intermediate/advanced session, it is possible the coaches may move you down to the beginner/intermediate session if they believe that you will get more out of that session.
-----------------
Q: Is it possible for the coaches to move me to another session once the clinics start?
A: Yes. The coaches strive to put players in the session which will benefit them the most.
-----------------
Q: Can players be in the gym or on campus before their session starts or after their session is over?
A: No, players should be dropped off a few minutes before the clinic starts and be picked up within a few minutes of the clinic being done.
-----------------
Q: Will participation in the clinic help a player make the school team?
A: Any improvements a player makes will give them a better chance of making their school’s team. However, simply attending a clinic coached by their school’s team coach gives them no advantage in making the school team.
-----------------
Q: What should players bring to the clinics?
A: Each player should bring a bottle of water, wear appropriate active attire and footwear, and have a positive attitude. We’d highly recommend knee pads as well if you have them.
-----------------
Q: Outside of the clinic, how can my child continue to improve their volleyball skills?
A: This is an important question. In order to see faster improvements, players should practice what they learned at home as much as they can, even if it’s just a few minutes a day. Just remind them to practice using the techniques they learned at the clinic. The more they do that, the more those techniques will become natural for them, and the faster they will improve. Doing things with an incorrect technique really limits how much better a player can become and makes it more difficult to correct later.
-----------------
Q. Can we sign up for individual sessions at a prorated fee?
A. At this time, we are not offering that option. Please check back to see if that option gets offered at a later point.
Leagues
Q: Do I need to be good at volleyball to participate?
A: Leagues are open to all skill levels. Players will be separated into teams based on skill levels. Teams will only play against other teams of similar skill level, so you will not have beginners playing against advanced players.
-----------------
Q: Can I play on the same team as my friends?
A: Typically you have the opportunity to specify a friend with whom you'd like to play. We'll try to get you both on the same team, though it is not guaranteed.
-----------------
Q: Will I be playing with players who are much better or much worse than me?
A: No, we separate kids by skill level and then make teams based on skill level.
