The World's First Interactively Recorded Album

#TWFIRA

This project was the world's first live and interactive music project where the audience watched, gave real-time feedback and helped shape a brand new song being written and recorded from scratch each and every week for a year. The audience voted to choose which of the 52 tracks made it on to the final album!

To hear the end result head to the link below:

A short write-up for 2 songs off Moxie And The Nobodies lastest album.

"Psychedelia and the absurd go hand in hand in the mashups of Moxie And The Nobodies. "Epiphany Dad" plays with robotic sounds and harsh guitars over which a spatial voice declaims verses with a certain parsimony, but everything changes radically towards an almost circus-like atmosphere. On the other hand "Dancing In A Nuclear Wasteland" poses a cooler environment, somewhat funky and with more intimate voices. In both we find a desire for experimentation with a sound that shows a personal brand. The surprise of the unpredictable awaits you just around the corner."

Massive thanks going out to Metal Digest for their positive review of our latest album! Particularly for the quote: "The mad scientist album Mike Patton wishes he had made." 😍Thanks Metal Digest, as well as Metal Devastation Radio!

https://metal-digest.com/2022/01/04/moxie-and-the-nobodies-spirograph-sunset/

Australian-based Evan Kitchener aka “Moxie” spearheads what is billed as the “World’s First Interactively Recorded Album Livestream.” With a very interesting backstory, ‘Sunset’ features the 12 highest voted songs (out of 52) recorded during their innovative broadcast.

The tracklist is as eclectic as the voters themselves. There is wavey down tempo reminiscent of Zero 7 and then quasi-industrial echoing Rammstein or perhaps the lesser-known German treasure OOMPH! Electro-funk numbers that elicit thoughts of Ghostland Observatory are coupled with wonderfully bizarre Electronica and tons of impossibly catchy grooves. There are plenty of moments of Synth-Pop bliss that melt into dark and moody instrumental breaks. Throw in a few Peter Murphy-inspired passages and then some MxPx meets Dead Milkmen nonsense, and you have a what may be the most inconsistent, yet oddly accessible album in some time.

The only commonality amongst the tracks is they have nothing in common. The whole album is gleefully disjointed and though pleasantly challenging at times, a joy to listen to. This is the mad scientist album Mike Patton wishes he had made.

Moxie And The Nobodies: Spirograph Sunset (2021) - mini-review

Australian band Moxie and the Nobodies are out with the album "Spirograph Sunset", and this is quite the odd production. With the content decided by voting, the songs we get here are at times wildly different in sound, style and overall approach. Alternative rock elements are the most common aspect running throughout this production, but electronic rock, post-punk, elegant instrumental sections with a borderline jazz-tinged feel to them are all present in one form or another, synth pop and classic era punk have been invited to this party as well. It does make for an interesting album experience, especially on the initial listen, as you really and literally don't know what is coming next, but it also takes a person with a wide and varied taste in music to enjoy this as a full album experience. Hence those whose taste in music encompass everything from synth pop to alternative rock will probably be a perfect listener to this production, and the specific audience I'd suggest to take note of this album.

5 years after I had the idea of creating "The World's First Interactively Recorded Album", it's finally finished!

https://moxie2.bandcamp.com/album/spirograph-sunset-the-worlds-first-interactively-recorded-album

It's been a long journey starting way back in 2016 when I started recording a new song each and every week. After 2 and a half years solid of this routine, the sessions evolved into the TWFIRA livestream project, starting in Sept 2018. #TWFIRA

Thanks to all the wonderful backers on Patreon, the project ran for 52 weeks where each recording session was live-streamed on Youtube and the audience would interact with the musicians and tell us what instruments to play and help us write the lyrics.

I searched around into whether this type of thing had been done before and as far as I could see, nothing with this level of real-time interaction and on this scale had been attempted.

"Spirograph Sunset (The World's First Interactively Recorded Album)" features the 12 highest voted songs out of the 52. I'm pretty happy with the songs you all selected... all except for 1. I'll never forgive you people for choosing that song. Which song? You'll just have to guess.

Out of all of the past albums, I think I'm most happy with this one. And that's in no small part due to the many talented musical guests who gave their time to collaborate with myself and the audience. I think we created some great songs together. Thank you.

Since starting to create music back in 2001 I've finished 23 albums (not all being publicly released). But since becoming a father time is a precious commodity and I want to focus on giving my son as much love and attention as possible, so I'll be stopping my musical endeavours after this album, as well as new film composing and sound design projects. There just aren’t enough hours in the day it seems and Leo comes first.

I'll still do the odd collab (feel free to message me) but no albums.

It's been a fun 20 years and I may come back in 3 years' time but I think I might want to try exploring a different creative endeavour instead...

Thanks to everyone who played on the album, supported the project on Patreon, and those in the comments who gave their input and helped shape so many of the songs.

I hope the tracks you voted for ended up on the album 😛

Love to all.

Evan "Moxie" Kitchener

John Scovell is a man of mystery. Some say there are no know photos of this elusive person! I'm here to say that's a bunch of crap, as here's a video of him giving #Feetback to the song "The Effortless Drone" off Moxie And The Nobodies album, "Song Surplus (From TWFIRA)"!

In the last 12 months I did 2 short films with talented mime Rod Lara. He had a really short time to submit them so I had to finish sound and music in just a few days. But a challenge is always fun!

They've screened at a bunch of different online festivals so far but tonight they're playing them both 'Isolation' & 'Lockdown' on Outta The Can" at 9:30pm (AEST) on Channel 31. If anyone wants to tune in from outer state you can watch the stream here:

Thanks to everyone who helped Earnest Irony raise $40 by buying a copy of the album "Blind Stranger" to support the charity BeyondBlue in memory of our friends Jay and Nick. We'll be matching that amount ourselves to bring the total up to $80. It's not much, but every little bit counts.

Any suicide is a tragedy that affects so many people every year so please be kind to one another and reach out to anyone who you think may be struggling at the moment. You may never get a second chance.

If you would also like to donate you can do so here:

www.beyondblue.org.au

Take care everyone.

I'm excited to announce the release of Moxie And The Nobodies third album, "Song Surplus (From TWFIRA)".

With songs about Paranoia, Space Cowboys and Violent Dreams, the album brings a blend of friendly nihilism and absurdity wrapped up in a tasty alt-rock package.

Chosen from the 52 songs recorded for The World's First Interactively Recorded Album project. This album is made up from tracks that were NOT voted on to the final album. This is a sort of B-Sides album of songs that I personally really liked that didn't make the cut vote wise.

To stream half of it or buy the full album click here: https://moxie2.bandcamp.com/album/song-surplus-from-twfira

Thanks! That is all!

My obligatory "Outside Headphone Check" of music. This time I get to sit down while listening. Luxury!

The last feature I worked on "In Love with Ally Barker" has been doing the festival circuit and has secured over 25 awards so far. A big congrats to all that were involved in its making. Covid has moved most festivals online this year and so anyone wanting to see it can get tickets here at the Awareness Film Festival.

Earnest Irony's fourth and final album "Blind Stranger". Described by ex-member Jared Brown as "atmospheric rock", you don't get a better recommendation out of him than that people!

Now it's been a tough year for everyone around the world and in the band's own bubble of connections, we have been truly saddened by two friends who tragically took their own lives. Please, if you know someone who is struggling at the moment please reach out to them and let them know you care, you won't regret it.

So with this last album, we will be donating any money made from its sale and any other Earnest albums sold this year to the charity www.BeyondBlue.org.au, in memory of Jay and Nick.

They are in our thoughts.

Take care everyone.

Not to say that I don't like watching everybody and their grandmas live-streaming their dubstep/crocheting sessions every night but way back. Way, wayyyyy back in 2018 I did a year-long music project. I streamed a songwriting and recording session every week for an entire year to create The World's First Interactively Recorded Album #TWFIRA.

And now that everyone is on the live streaming bandwagon I guess I should repost week 52's stream session. Featuring many talented guests, it was a real blast to interact with the viewers and take their suggestions and weave them into the song.

So if you want to check out the stream replay it's at the link below. And keep those crocheting sessions coming grandma!

Well who knew it would come to this?! I've just signed a multi-trillion dollar record deal and now will only be only doing Hawaiian tuba music from now on as stipulated in my contract with Evil Corp Records.

...although after some more thought, I've decided to sign up with a small American label called Blue Pie Records instead. They seem pretty chill and didn't even want me to sign the contract in my own blood! (even though I protested heavily). So my music is now available on a range of platforms, iTunes, Amazon, Spotify and still from my own Bandcamp site too. So check them all out as well as this new handy dandy new website!

http://www.evankitchener.com/

In the New Year, 3 new music videos will be finally, finally coming out and a bunch of new "different music" with some new, as well as old collaborators.

A big "Thank You!" goes out to every single one of you who has listened and supported me over the years and helped me get this far. Especially Alex Yabsley, Justin Kitchener, Jared Brown, Paul Hopgood, my wife and family as well as the wonderful community over at SoundCloud. Hopefully there will be much more music coming your way soon!

A big thank you goes out to all my peeps over on soundcloud for 10,000 plays! Watch your back Kanye! As thanks please enjoy this “short” thing?

In a mean looking home

Lived a mean looking man

Who had mean little thoughts

And couldn't do anything

He wanted to do good

But all his thoughts were bad

It had always been this way

Ever since he was a lad

But he kept it all in check

And bottled up inside

Until one day

And he lost his fragile mind

He jumped out of bed

Put his gold coloured pants on his head

And loudly declared

“The king is dead!”

He went downstairs

To greet his subjects

A Dog and a Cat

And a little pot of Mustard

As he stood before them all

He made a royal decreed

“From this day forth!”

“You are all slaves to me!”

And then he set them working

Tilling the fields

And cooking

All his meals

The next day he said

“For your great king!”

“A castle you will build!”

“Now. Begin!”

They toiled long

They toiled hard

But one by one

They all began to starve

First the Cat

And then the Dog

The little pot of Mustard

Dried up like a frog

Now the king was alone

His fault for being mad

He too died that night

His hearts bad replace with sad
