Studies in sonority
by Nilson Mascolo & Cinthia Mascolo.
Studying sonority aims to improve our tone, making it more beautiful. It is based on long notes, and must be played in a slow fashion and with a great deal of attention. Each flutist has his or her own sonority. Listen to each one frequently and on top of what you have been hearing and enjoyed build your own sonority, with your personality. At the website Estudantes de Flauta-Transversal you will find in the Audio/Video section hundreds of recordings featuring great masters of the flute. An important observation is that your embouchure must be as natural and comfortable as possible, without excessive tension in the edge of the lips as in the smile of the Joker. It is important to keep your throat always open, so air can flow freely.
