Unit 1: Getting Personal with Narratives

TASK:

Write a (Personal) Narrative based on a pivotal event that has occurred in his or her life.

The narrative MUST have a theme and a reason for the author writing the narrative (author’s purpose). The narrative MUST include ALL elements of a PLOT.

Student can: read and review elements of a narrative; Lit pgs. 144-149

Student can: read pgs. R36-R37 to reinforce his/her understanding of Narrative Writing

NOTE: The narrative MUST be a minimum of five (5) full detailed paragraphs. You are being graded on your imagination and creativity. Be sure to include proper transition words and phrases. Make sure your writing is cohesive and flows smoothly.

OBJECTIVE: Make sure the learner understands the various types of writing and can adequately apply them in his or her writings. SW be familiar with the R.A.F.T strategy. He or she wants to use it as a resource when writing a narrative or personal narrative. SW be able to adequately break down and decode a given prompt. SW have a clear understanding of what the prompt is stating and what he or she is expected to complete based on a given prompt. SW be able to adequately be able to use his or her critical thinking to adequately create and complete an essay (assigned part/portion) or the steps in effectively writing an essay. SW be familiar with the “Writing Process” and a “Five-Paragraph Essay”. SW be able to use his or her critical thinking skills and or strategies to effective analyze the term fiction and the plot of a story. SW know and understand the vocabulary by completing various assignment and practicing strategies. This will help the S with becoming familiar with the definition(s) and questions. SW be able to come up with correctly answering various types of questions. SW master the standard(s). SW understand how to develop the ability to apply thinking and critical thinking skills to their reading, writing, speaking, listening, and viewing (classical literature and poetry) according to the according to the Common Core Georgia Standards of Excellence as well as relating to real life experiences.
