Writing Samples

This is a selection of documents that I have produced during my internship and a freelance project. These samples demonstrate my ability to write and/or edit for a varied audience, design visually pleasing documents and research and organize information effectively.

BOOk editing

Below is a link for a sample of an e-book that I edited. The book, A Photographer's Guide to Wedding Photography, by Ed Hughes, was published by BookTango. I met with the author over many months, and also corresponded and edited electronically, to produce the final result. I really enjoyed the experience, and it gave me a great understanding of the importance of the "back and forth" communication between the author and the editor. Unfortunately, I had nothing to do with uploading the document onto the web, so the formatting is in a bit of disarray...

Planned Giving Documents

This document was created for people that are (basically already) familiar with MCLV. These people may include Board members, volunteers and some members of the public. The pamphlet is a way to spark their “giving nature” and generate interest in including MCLV in their estate planning. While it reminds them of certain important facts, it also uses emotional appeals to attract their attention.

While creating this pamphlet, I focused on document design, not just for a pleasing look, but also to solve the problem of including a lot of different information in a small space. I also focused on audience, and through several revisions, was able to create the feel that my supervisor wanted the pamphlet to convey.
