Update!
We have some new information about Mobile Maker price. See below:
We don't have an *operational* base for the truck, only a fenced lot where we park it. There are no services there and it's not suitable for running programmes.
We could talk to a Community Centre such as Hillside. /*Or perhaps one of the parents has a business that could host the MakerMobile? Requirements are simply a flat & level off-street parking space with access to power and washrooms.*/
_Pricing is on our website_
2hrs & up to 10 participants: $375 [$37.50 ($18.75/hr) per participant based on full enrolment]
4hrs & up to 10 participants: $650 [$65 ($16.25/hr) per participant based on full enrolment]
[Two 2-hr sessions on the same day would also benefit from this rate]
6hrs & up to 10 participants: $925 [$92.50 ($15.42/hr) per participant based on full enrolment]
If we had 20 signups then we could do morning and afternoon sessions. The 'off duty' group could play soccer or something under the supervision of a few parents. As I said before, some activities are limited to 10 participants at a time (computer programming for example), in which case groups have to go sequentially.
If the nature of the activity and the venue lends itself to a group size of more than 10, then these prices are increased by between $50 and $75 per hour as we need extra supplies and team members. For example, if we do a 2 hour workshop with 20 participants it will be $525 rather than $375 but the cost per person per hour comes down to $13 (or under $11/person-hr for a four hour session)
Please post ideas and suggestions on how to proceed with these plans on our Google Group forum.
From Maker Mobile owner Simon Lyons:
In terms of content, my personal mission is to offer electronics (analog, Arduino, etc) and computer-related workshops (Raspberry Pi, Scratch, Python, simple hardware and webware interfaces, etc). If that is not close enough to curriculum then we can work together to devise something that is. All our workshops and courses are hands-on, experiential learning events. Personally I am a certified (i.e. card-carrying) BC teacher so I do know the ropes in terms of learning outcomes etc. I could also offer standard curriculum in Math/Physics/Chem to grade 12 + AP, homework club, etc.
We can offer one-off workshops or multi-week projects, depending on how much interest and/or budget there is.
If you are interested in participating in a Maker Mobile workshop, please add your name to the sign-up sheet. Once we get an idea of who wants to participate, we can make solid plans with Maker Mobile.
