TreadSense
While a doctoral student in John Jeka's research lab at the University of Maryland we developed the TreadSense as a research tool to determine whether real time visual feedback of trunk motion during walking could be used to improve balance ability in older adults with balance problems. We completed several studies to demonstrate that trunk motion visual feedback changes trunk motion while walking. We recently completed a randomized clinical training trial which showed that older adults with balance problems improved their balance after 4 weeks of training.
Oscillopsia Functional Impact Scale
We developed a questionnaire to quantify the functional impact of oscillopsia on daily life activities for individuals with vestibular disease. This scale was able to discriminate between healthy control subjects and individuals with bilateral vestibular loss. I am currently investigating whether the OFI score changes after rehabilitation and also whether a shorter version of the scale is equally effective at discriminating individuals with vestibular disease from healthy controls.
