The following e-mail was sent to the South African Society of Psychiatrists on 8 July 2014. We are awaiting a response from SASOP Board members.
Dear Prof Janse van Rensburg
A document (attached) is circulating that some say is a SASOP position statement on the scope of practice for psychologists.
Whether or not the document is a SASOP position statement, it is an incorrect interpretation. In this respect, please see the position of the Educational Psychology Task Team (also attached) pertaining to the scope of practice for educational psychologists.
Would it be possible for SASOP to distance itself from the purported position statement dated November 2013?
I would be very appreciative if this could be attended to urgently.
Please would you forward this e-mail to your executive committee as well as to your Child and Adolescent SIG?
I look forward to your response and to further positive engagements with SASOP.
Kind regards,
Martin Strous
