Software and web resources
Software
Protégé: Protégé is a free, open-source platform that provides a growing user community with a suite of tools to construct domain models and knowledge-based applications with ontologies. We use Protege as our primary editing tool for EnvO.
OBO-Edit: OBO-Edit may be used to handle the OBO files generated from our OWL-based workflow (e.g. envo.obo). Note that we generate OBO files for legacy compatibility, but ENVO is developed in OWL and the OBO format is not maintained with the same thoroughness.
Web resources
OntoBee: A web server aimed to facilitate ontology visualization, query, and development. Ontobee provides a user-friendly web interface for displaying the details and its hierarchy of a specific ontology term. Meanwhile, Ontobee provides a RDF source code for the particular web page, which supports remote query of the ontology term and the Semantic Web.
EBI Ontology Lookup Service: The Ontology Lookup Service (OLS) is a repository for biomedical ontologies that aims to provide a single point of access to the latest ontology versions. You can browse the ontologies through the website as well as programmatically via the OLS API. OLS is developed and maintained by the Samples, Phenotypes and Ontologies Team at EMBL-EBI.
