To split a big .KML file into smaller usable files, you will need Google Earth. You can download the offline installer of Google Earth from here (17.6 MB download size)
1. Download the Sub-District (Upazila) data related .CSV file from here
2. Download the geographic visualization files of all Sub-Districts (Upazilas) of Bangladesh here: KMZ / KML
Firstly, open the .KML file you downloaded using the link above in Google Earth.
Upon clikcing within the boundary of any Sub-District (Upazila), you will get the following data-
Copy the numeral data from Shape Area field. Next, open the Sub-District data related .CSV file in Microsoft Excel. Use the Find bar (Ctrl+F) and Paste the data you have copied previously to locate the corresponding Sub-District name.
Head back to Google Earth again. This time, Right Click on the same area and click on Save Place As ...
Input the File Name you would like the given file to be named and Save it as KML/KMZ.
You can separate all Sub-Districts this way from the big .KML file and save them individually on your HDD for later use.
Say, I want to integrate the Sub-District files I have now separated into a District. In order to do this, we need to start by opening the files together by going to File > Open (Ctrl+O) in Google Earth.
Here, I kept all 9 Sub-Districts of Kurigram District in a single folder, all of which I have selected and opened.
I can see the Kurigram District now!
Now on the left hand panel, find Temporary Places, Right Click on it and use Save Place As ...
Save the file by entering the desired name you want to be associated with this file in File Name field.
Here you go! You now have the KML/KMZ file of Kurigram District ready to be overlaid! Use a hosting server to host your file, even My Maps from Google Maps will do!
Login to Google Map Maker with your Gmail ID and corresponding password.
On the right, find Overlays. Click on it to display a smaller window and find Manage Overlays.
(You need to have Overlays option enabled. If you do not see Overlays on the right, go to the Gear-icon on the right and click on Labs > Overlays: Enabled)
Provide the direct link to the .KML that you want to overlay above the maps image.
Click on Add and OK afterwards.
Here you go! The KML file has been overlaid over the Google Maps image as illustrated below!
