Currently, I am working on three projects.
Morphological representation
When would babies know that "walks" is related to "walk"? Would they differentiate laps vs. lapse? What are some cues that babies and adults use to understand grammatical morphemes?
Recent presentation: Kim, Y. (2020) "Wait, was that bruise or brews? Utilizing acoustic cues in word recognition of morphologically simple and complex homophones" Acoustical Society of America
Phonological rule interaction
When multiple phonological rules are applied in the given environment, how to the rules interact? Would both rules apply? In a specific order? What are some factors that can influence the rule interaction?
Recent presentation: Bouguyon, J., Seitter, R., & Kim, Y. (2020). "Coarticulatory assimilation of velar consonants on vowels in the Southern Dialect of America English " Acoustical Society of America
Heritage/Second Language Acquisition
How would this unique group's language acquisition different from first language acquisition?
Recent presentation: Kim, Y. (2018). Pronouns or no pronouns, that is the question. 3rd International Conference on Heritage/Community Languages, UCLA
