My name is Emma Taylor and I am a registered nurse who is currently pursuing a Master's Degree in Health Studies through Athabasca University.
I graduated from Laurentian University with a BScN Degree in 2014. Since then I have dedicated my career to my passion, working in mental health. Although the majority of my career has been spent in a front-line position working directly with clients, I have recently moved into a management role where I have a broader focus on program development, clinical supports, and financial planning. By completing my Master's degree I will be better prepared to implement strategies to support the ever changing Ontario healthcare system.
As a registered nurse, I am regulated by the College of Nurses of Ontario to which I am liable for my practice. The CNO has set practice standards to ensure all nurses have the same competencies to enter the profession and maintain current. There are strict expectations that all RN's must meet and report to the CNO on an annual basis. As a practicing nurse, I am governed by the Ministry of Health and Long Term Care which has specific legislation and acts that pertain to my nursing practice.
Throughout my nursing career I have valued ongoing learning. As a nurse I believe my education will never really have an end date. Since obtaining my BScN I have also gained certification in Advanced and Diabetic Foot Care, Applied Suicide Intervention Training, and Basic Cardiac Life Support. Also, I have found a new passion for providing education to other professionals who want to learn about mental health. I am a train the trainer for multiple mental health education sessions including World of Mental Health, Mental Health 101, Crisis Intervention Training and Communicate with Heart.
