The group aims to engage a tutor who is active in the art world and, in this, the group has been very fortunate with a succession of tutors represented by leading Melbourne galleries and who have won a number of prestigious art awards. The list includes Dr Maryanne Coutts, Juan Ford, Tony Lloyd, Dr Gary Willis, Sam Leach, David Disher, Anna Prifti, Gasworks Resident Artist, Arthur (Ted) Powell and Michael Knight from Western Australia.
In 2014, Robert Lee Davis from Colorado, USA, introduced an international note. Robert has taught not only in America but also in Asia, the Middle East. He left early in 2015 to go to the UK.
Our current tutor, Stephen Armstrong joined us at EHAG during 2015. Stephen is a Melbourne based artist with an extensive exhibiting history. He has shown at numerous galleries, undertaken residencies at Bundanon and St Vincent's Hospital and is represented in public and private collections. The main focus of his work is the urban landscape often produced on location and also painted in the studio.
Stephen's most recent paintings have been of the Alphington Paper Mills as they are being demolished.
Known as a painter's painter, other artists admire Stephen's ability to capture the world in paint.
