We at Elvins Baptist want to help you find the answers to life’s toughest questions through God’s Holy Word and we would love for you to be a part of our family. We seek to offer a well-rounded approach to helping your family draw closer to God and to each other, by offering Sunday School, and Wednesday night Bible studies, as well as our morning worship time and other short-term Bible study groups.
We also offer many other ministries and outreach events throughout the year, such as: All Saints' Museum in October, Christmas Baskets, Community Services, Compassion Ministry, Secret Church, Spring Festival, and monthly fellowships, to name a few.
Bates Creek Camp is our local Baptist Association's summer camp. We have three camps: Girl's Week, Boy's Week, and Youth Week in June or July (alternating with a sister association each year). Our church sends children and youth to these camps, participates in camp upkeep, and helps to support the meals served during the camps. Our pastor's wife is currently serving as the camp's kitchen director. The cost is reasonable, but we also sponsor a number of campers, so that there is no cost. Check the calendar for specifics about when these camps will be offered this year.
Extraordinary circumstances occasionally create special financial needs. The whole congregation, in cooperation with the benevolence ministry of our Ministerial Alliance (which we support through offerings at our Community services) seeks to provide financial assistance and/or biblically-based guidance for members to help them in a time of special need. You may call the office for answers to questions you have about requesting assistance or helping us give by calling (573) 431-1323.
The Bible clearly communicates God's concern for the widow and/or family of the deceased, and instructs us to take special interest in extending His love and concern for them. The pastor, deacons and our Sunday School classes offer help at the time of loss through prayer and assistance with planning funeral services. Families share their grief at the passing of loved-ones. The Elvins Baptist family is no exception. We endeavor to wrap our caring arms of faith and comfort around families who have suffered loss. When we are made aware of a loss, the pastor immediately attempts to contact a family member to express our condolences for the loss, to pray with the family, and to offer any assistance that the family may request. To notify the pastor of a death, use the contact information on the Home page.
Adult Classes
Men's, Women's and Mixed Sunday School groups focus on taking the timeless truth of God's Word and bringing it to life - your life. We want to help you find the answers to life's toughest questions through God's Holy Word. Whatever your age or stage in life, there's a group for you and every member of your family.
Each Bible study group is designed to help you grow as a believer, to have victory in your daily walk with the Lord, and to serve Him with your unique gifts and talents. You'll also meet and make friends for life - people with common needs, who will encourage you, rejoice with you, and pray for you.
Individual Sunday School classes meet at 9:45 am on Sunday mornings. All adults meet together for prayer and Bible study at 6:00 pm on Wednesday evenings. The midweek time is intended to provide a less formal service that allows questions and comments from participants.
Youth and Children's Classes
Children are precious to God and to us, too. Taking to heart Jesus' love for children, we seek to provide a comprehensive, caring ministry to children and their parents. From the nursery on up, Elvins Baptist's children will learn about God. It is a great place to grow as a family. Our nursery is staffed with background-checked workers to handle your precious little-ones during our morning Bible Study and Worship Service times.
Children's and Youth classes also meet at 9:45 am on Sunday mornings. See the sections below for other Children's Ministries and Youth Ministries.
Biblical Guidance Ministry
The Pastor provides confidential counseling based on sound Biblical principles for those coping with life's stresses and difficulties. For more information or to request an appointment with the Pastor, use any of the contact methods on the Home Page.
Bus Ministry
We can provide transportation on our bus or via volunteers from anywhere in the Park Hills area to and from our worship services and special gatherings. For more information or to request a pickup, use the contact information on the Home page. It is generally necessary to let us know by Thursday morning of the week if you will need a ride on Sunday, because the office is not staffed on Friday.
Children's Church
Children's Church takes place during the preaching portion of each Sunday morning worship service. Children leave for their own, special service after the Children's Box message in the Sanctuary. The "Box" consists of an impromptu message about whatever one or more children bring in a shoebox to spark the conversation. The only rule for the box contents is "nothing live and nothing dead - no live squirrels or dead snakes". The Children's Church focus is on Bible lessons and activities geared toward a younger audience. On the last Sunday of the month, the children remain in the Sanctuary for the service, and the special music time is brought by our puppets.
Children-On-Mission/Veggie-Tales
Children-On-Mission is our midweek children's group meeting. The club meets weekly at 6:00 pm, on Wednesday nights, during the academic year. The emphasis for the school year is learning about missions, mission work and missionaries, with projects, lessons and occasional special guests.
Veggie-Tales is the Summer version of our Wednesday night program. These meetings feature a movie and associated lessons or activities, and a regular meal is provided to make up for the fact that schools are not in session.
Kids Crew
Kids Crew generally meets monthly, on a Saturday afternoon, and features a holiday-themed craft, snack, and Bible lesson for children ages 5 years through 4th grade. There are occasional, special nights, like lock-ins, that involve meals, activities, movies, and much more. Check the What's Happening Page for the dates, times, and other pertinent details about these events.
Vacation Bible School
Our children are also offered an annual, theme-based Vacation Bible School (VBS) week, typically held in late July. VBS is an age-graded time of Bible study, fellowship, food, crafts, mission education and music. Our past schedule has been to begin VBS on Sunday evening, and conclude with a special "family" night on Thursday of that week. Check the calendar for specifics on the time and theme for the current year. We usually put it on the calendar in the late springtime.
Evangelism
Answering the call to missions may take you across the sea or across the street. It could take you to a faraway nation or to your own neighborhood. We encounter people every day who need to hear the Good News of Salvation in Jesus Christ. Elvins Baptist Sunday School and Bible Studies prepare you and others for evangelism opportunities. We also plan every event at Elvins Baptist with an evangelistic component. For more information, contact the Pastor or keep watch in the bulletin for upcoming classes and events.
Hospital Ministry
The whole flock, led by the Pastor and Deacons, extends compassionate ministry and prayer to those who are hospitalized and institutionalized through personal visitation in the area's hospitals and care facilities. Recent changes in the law have limited the information hospitals can give to those requesting information about patients, so it is important to contact the Pastor, Prayer Chain Leader or a Deacon to report any admissions or surgical procedures. Covid and post-Covid policies have varied widely as to who and how many are permitted to visit patients. You may leave a message at the church office at (573) 431-1323, or any of the contact methods listed on the Home Page.
Missions
WMU/Women-on-Mission
Women-on-Mission (the women's portion of the Women's Missionary Union) is a group that engages in a number of projects supporting mission endeavors throughout the year. At this time, the Baptist Men do not have a monthly meeting, so all are welcome to join the women as they discuss missions and work on current projects. Monthly meetings are usually held on the first Monday of the month, at 1:00 pm, which is preceded by a noon meal at the church or another convenient location.
WMU also sets the goals for our mission offerings and schedules regular "mission dinners" for our three major mission thrusts: Annie Armstrong Easter Offering for North American Missions, Missouri Mission Offering (Rheubin L. South), and Lottie Moon Christmas Offering for International Missions. These mission emphases are times of fellowship, focus on mission work, and feature testimonies and reports about our state, national or international missions work.
Baptist Men
Our Baptist Men generally participate in yearly mission work, typically a construction- or renovation-related project scheduled during one of the Summer months.
They also take over the speaking and choir duties on Baptist Men's Day, a day that begins with a breakfast fellowship and testimonies and moves to testimonies and lessons brought during the morning and evening worship services.
Mission Support
A portion of all undesignated gifts to Elvins Baptist Church go to support our local Mineral Area Baptist Association and the Cooperative Programs of the Missouri Baptist and Southern Baptist Conventions.
In addition to our involvement in the Cooperative Program, we take special Annie Armstrong Easter Offerings, where 100% of the proceeds go to support the North American Missions Board goal to spread the Gospel in the United States and Canada; Lottie Moon Christmas Offerings, where 100% of the proceeds go to support the International Missions Board goal to spread the Gospel throughout the world (The International Missions Board has over 5,400+ missionaries serving around the world), and Missouri Missions Offering, used to support works right here in Missouri.
Music
Our Church music is brought together by the calling to proclaim the Good News of Jesus Christ through vocal music.
We are blessed to have a choir that brings special music on many Sunday mornings as well as full choir cantata presentations associated with various special days, sometimes in cooperation with other area churches. At times, a children's choir meets to prepare for special events. If you are interested in helping to lead others in making a joyful noise of praise, you are always welcome to join us! Choir practices are typically scheduled at 5:00 pm on Sunday evenings.
Members and guests may also ask to be scheduled to present special music for our Sunday services.
On Fifth Sunday evenings, we celebrate with special music services that feature a number of our own groups, soloists and instrumentalists, as well as special readings, testimonies, sister churches, and other guest appearances.
Pastoral Care
Elvins Baptist is a family, and at the heart of every family is love; our love for the Lord and for each other. It brings us together, makes the good times sweeter, and helps us through the tough times. At Elvins Baptist, you’ll find that being a part of a family is a great feeling. There’s the comfort of knowing that you’re surrounded by people who love you and care for you. That’s what Pastoral Care is all about. Our Pastoral Care is designed to minister to your needs at every stage of life. When you have a need, please contact the Pastor.
Prayer
Lifting up the special needs of our families is an important part of Elvins Baptist's Intercessory Prayer Ministry. If you have a need for which you would like us to intercede, you may make that request by calling the office at (573) 431-1323 , by contacting any member on the prayer chain, by using any of the contact methods on the Home Page or by placing a request in the offering plate during a service. Members of Elvins Baptist will pray for you. We meet to pray during Sunday School, worship services, and Bible studies and will continue to pray throughout the week.
Prayer Shawl
Our Prayer Shawl ministry has given out over 1,000 shawls to those who are going through difficulties, medical issues, or special events, such as weddings, graduations, and new babies. These shawls are all prayed over and dedicated to the Lord. The group typically meets on Tuesdays at 1:00 pm, but generally gets together for fellowship and lunch at 11:00 am, at a local restaurant, prior to the meeting.
JOY Group
Our senior adults (Just Older Youth) generally schedule a monthly outing on the first Friday of the month. The group takes off in the church bus to a location of common interest to the group. Check our newsletter, weekly bulletins, and the What's Happening Page for details on these trips.
Worship Services
Worship and Bible Study are the foundation for all that we do at Elvins Baptist. Both are designed to draw people closer to God and closer to each other. Through praise-filled music and singing, each Worship Service is a celebration of our wonderful Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ. Worship helps fulfill our mission to magnify Jesus Christ. Studying God's Word helps move believers in Jesus toward maturity and ministry, and to make Jesus known to our neighbors and the nations.
Each week, lives are touched, renewed, and changed, as we participate in the exciting experience of Worship and the Word. It’s inspiring and uplifting—a great way to start your week!
Elvins Baptist offers Worship Services at 11:00 am on Sunday mornings, and 6:00 pm on Sunday evenings. Worship, music, prayer and Bible study are also a part of our 6:00 pm Wednesday services.

Children are welcome to participate in all of our services. There is a Children's message from the pastor based on an object that one of the children brings in a box. Our only rule is that it must not be something either live or dead (no live snakes or dead squirrels). After the "box" children may remain with the adults or participate in a special Children's Church service held in another room.
Youth Group
Aside from Sunday School, our Junior High and High School youth meet at 6:00 pm on Wednesday nights for Bible study and fellowship or participate in our local Mineral Area Baptist Association youth events. The Wednesday night group typically holds a monthly fellowship, either at the church or a youth-oriented destination. They have participated in pool parties, ski trips, mission work, Secret Church meetings, game nights, and and school in and out bashes, to name a few. A FaceBook page for youth activities is located at https://www.facebook.com/elvinsstudents/
