The English for Professional Communication course enables learners to achieve proficiency in listening, speaking, reading, and writing in English. The objectives of the course are: (i) to enable students to comprehend obvious and implied meanings of the texts, learn to write academically and coherently, and communicate effectively during academic presentations and business communications, (ii) to familiarize the students to simple grammar, syntactical structures, vocabulary building and presentation skills, (iii) to introduce the fundamentals of workplace etiquette and professional behaviour, (iv) to use communication skills to develop entrepreneurial abilities.
(v) to develop an awareness of the ethics (and etiquette) of language use in media.
The course aims to develop a self-sufficient language learner who can grasp the English language easily and behave professionally. The class will study selected prose and poems from prescribed texts. Classroom activities further include the use of non-traditional reading materials like newspaper articles, advertisements and online media.
