Hi,
I am a post-doctoral fellow in the Department of Arabic at Bar-Ilan Univeristy in Ramat Gan, as part of the project "Sulaymān and the Art of Storytelling: Portraits of a Legendary King in Pre-Modern Arabic Narrative Culture." The project is led by Guy Ron-Gilboa and supported by the Israel Science Foundation.
I received my PhD from the Department of Near Eastern Languages and Civilizations at the University of Chicago. My dissertation is titled "Green Jars and Other Prohibited Receptacles in Islamic Law." Generally, my research focuses on the development of ḥadīth literature from its earliest traceable beginnings; on the connection between written traditions and archeology and art history; and also on any interactions between the Jewish, Christian, and Islamic traditions.
I have a BA in Classics and in Arabic Language and Literature from the Hebrew University of Jerusalem, and an MA in Arabic Language and Literature from the same institution. For many years I worked at the Arabic-Hebrew dictionary.
On this site you will find a list of some of my publications, and other miscellany that I feel like sharing.
Have a great day,
Elon
