Philosophy
I want my students to discover the joy of playing the piano. Although my teaching is serious and structured, I am committed to make this experience fun and fulfilling.
Students receive instruction in performance skills, technique, sight-reading and music theory.
Repertoire and Curriculum
Beginning and Elementary level students play mainly from well-established American methods, particularly Faber's "Piano Adventures" and Marlais' "Succeeding at the Piano".
Intermediate and advanced level students follow the curriculum of the Certificate of MeritTM Program and play mainly from the classical repertoire with pieces from the Baroque, Classical, Romantic and Modern periods. I use the leveled series "Succeeding with the Masters, The Festival Collection" and "Celebration Series, Perspectives" for selections of repertoire and etudes.
Students have the opportunity to take part in the Certificate of MeritTM (CM) annual evaluations, administered by the Music Teachers’ Association of California (MTAC).
Practice
Students must have a piano in good working condition and regularly tuned. An acoustic piano is highly preferable but an electric keyboard is acceptable for the first year of study.
Students are expected to practice a minimum of 5 days a week with a minimum daily practice of 20 to 60 minutes (depending on age and level).
Recital
Students have the opportunity to perform in the annual class recital.
