Villas
A villa was originally an ancient Roman upper-class country house. Since its origins in the Roman villa, the idea and function of a villa have evolved considerably. In modern parlance 'villa' can refer to various types and sizes of residences, ranging from the suburban "semi-detached" double villa to residences in the wildland–urban interface.

Row Houses
Row Houses are popularized originally in Paris.
The Place des Vosges was one of the earliest examples of this style.Originally known as the Place Royale, the Place des Vosges was built by Henri IV from 1605 to 1612. A true square (140 m × 140 m), it embodied the first European program of royal city planning. In Parisian squares, central blocks were given discreet prominence, to relieve the façade. Terraced buildings were introduced later on between 1852 and 1870 creating whole streetscapes consisting of terraced rows.

Row houses have since become popular all over the world in all the major cities. Row houses offer the convenience of a shared lifestyle where some amenities and facilities are usually shared to ease the burden of maintenance.
