A beginner-friendly program which allows users to transform 2D sketches into 3D models.
Slicing Programs
Slicers are used to break 3D models into 2D layers for the printing process.

The slicing program used for all prints at the EDH Library 3D Print Lab.
Use at home to see print times and structural weaknesses.
Remember to select Printrbot Simple Metal as your printer model.
Drawing Programs
Want to add a logo or design to your print? .SVG (Scalable Vector Graphic) files can be converted to 3D models in 123D Design. These programs can create .SVG files and convert simple .JPEGs as well.

GNU Image Manipulation Program (GIMP) | free download
A free alternative to Photoshop, this is an all-purpose drawing and editing program which is also able to export .SVG files.
3D Scanning Programs
Scan anything, including objects around your house, your face, or even your pet (if it sits still long enough) to make a 3D model, ready to print.

Use your phone's camera as a 3D scanner.
