Internet Usage Policy

The mission of the Ekalaka Public Library is to ensure that the people of Carter County have the right and means to free and open access to ideas and information. The Ekalaka Public Library has five public computers that are avalible to any citizen that wishes to participate in navigating the Internet.

The Internet is an unregulated medium. The Library will identify some specific Internet sites that have potential interest for library users. But the library cannot control a user's access to other internet resources and will not monitor a user's internet use, except for length of use in order to ensure equal opportunity of access for everyone. The available time limit is 1 hour unless there is a high demand for computers and you may have your computer time shortened accordingly. The user, or parent of a minor, is responsible for his or her Internet session at all times. Parents are responsible for their children's use of the Library's resources and facilities. Youth under 14 years of age will be required to have parental or guardian permission before accessing the Internet. Parents are encouraged to work closely with their children in selecting material that is consistent with personal and family values and boundaries.

Inappropriate use will result in a cancellation of account for 30 days for the first offense. Second offense will result in permanent suspension. The system administrators further reserve the right to deem what is inappropriate use. Ekalaka Public Library has the right to restrict or terminate internet access at any time.
