Positive Behavioral Intervention and Support
PBIS is a school wide initiative in which our expectations for your child’s behavior have been directly taught and are frequently reinforced. Our school slogan is OWLS SOAR. Safety, Ownership, Achievement, and Respect. These expectations are taught, modeled, and rewarded. We hope to provide a positive and nurturing learning environment for your child. With this in mind, positive behavior is rewarded while negative behavior is discouraged.
Discipline Logs - Chronic minor problematic behavior (absences, tardiness, off task behavior, or missing homework) or any major problematic behavior (fighting, inappropriate language, defiance, disrespect, or bullying) will be referred to the office in the form of a Discipline Log. The consequence of such behavior is up to the principal.
Be Prepared for Class
Students will be expected to be in school every day and to arrive on time and ready to work. Sharpened pencils, supplies, homework in the Blue Communicator folder, and a charged Chromebook must be brought to class. Upon arrival at school, they will be expected to proceed to their classroom to unpack and prepare for the day.
Homework
Please make sure to set aside time every day for homework. It is required!
Homework may be assigned in Math . Completed homework should be placed back into the homework folder and returned to school the next day. Homework will include: Practice sheets in math and reading for 20 minutes. Occasionally, other projects may be sent home. It should take approximately 40 minutes or so to complete all homework.
Absences
Please keep sick children home from school. Please schedule appointments after school hours to reduce absences. If your child is absent, please notify the school. Any work that can be made up will be provided to your child upon their return to school and must be made up. Remember that excessive absenteeism may result in retention.
Forms
Many forms will be sent home in the first few days of school. It is extremely important that they be filled out quickly and returned to school. We will need the information they provide to keep you informed and to keep your child safe.
Water Bottles
Water bottles are allowed in class. We have a water bottle refill station available. This will be the only beverage allowed in class. Please label your child’s water bottle. Make sure water bottles have tops that screw on. The press on tops pop off when bottles fall and create large spills.
