Below we have outlined the most recent information released by CPS regarding Selective Enrollment High School admissions for the 2021-22 school year. Admission will still be based on an application score out of 900 determined as it has been in the past. However, the following changes will be made due to effects of the stay-at-home order this spring:
In place of a spring 2020 NWEA MAP score, CPS will consider students’ highest NWEA scores from any of the following prior administrations:
Spring 2019 (May/June of 6th grade)
Fall 2019 (Sept/Oct of 7th grade)
Winter 2019 (Dec/Jan of 7th grade)
Winter 2020 (Dec/Jan of 8th grade) - ONLY if in-person school has resumed by that time
If students do not have a valid NWEA score from one of these administration windows or have not taken the NWEA with CPS (eg, private school students), the district will be administering the exam on October 3, 4, 18 and 24, 2020.
During remote learning last spring, most students received final grades that accurately reflected their learning and work. However, some students were not able to participate in virtual remote learning. For the 2020–21 high school admission process, the district will use the highest scores of either the student's final grades (average from all four quarters) or the average of their first and second quarter grades.
CPS plans to administer this exam in person as scheduled during winter of the 2020–21 school year with proper health and safety protocols in place. The selective enrollment exam will take place on November 14 & 21 and December 5 & 19, 2020.
