Congestion Hedging 101: Hedging Scenarios (April 2016)
This tutorial demonstrates how congestion hedging affects the true cost that electricity customers pay for in regulated and deregulated environment. A few illustrative scenarios are presented to help understand the interaction of market payment across multiple markets including energy market, Auction Revenue Rights (ARR) market and Financial Transmission Rights (FTR) market.
Wind Curtailment 101: Curtailment Order in Economic Dispatch (May 2013)
This tutorial provides simple examples to illustrate how curtailment order is determined in economic dispatch, when curtailment is necessary in order to resolve thermal violations on transmission systems. The formula for determining curtailment order is derived as well. This tutorial can help understand the relative significance of unit curtailment price and its electrical distance to the transmission line with thermal violation.
Marginal Loss Pricing 101: Hand-calculation Examples (July 2012)
This tutorial provides simple and representative examples to illustrate the calculation of loss factor, shift factor, shadow price and LMP. It can greatly help gain insights of various key concepts around LMP and economic dispatch/OPF. Impact of different selection of reference bus is also illustrated.
