Process to Review and Adopt Position Statements
(proposed)
- A committee member or other interested EERI member drafts a policy position statement for consideration.
- Other committee members read, edit, and comment on the position statement. An updated draft position statement is produced.
- Committee holds a meeting to discuss proposed position statements and votes on which ones should be recommended as official EERI policy positions, based on the following criteria:
* the statement aligns with EERI’s mission
* the statement aligns with the Public Policy and Advocacy Committee overarching guiding policy statement
* the statement is complete, well researched, and reflects the best scientific, engineering, social science, and public policy thinking on the issue.
- Recommended policy position statements are presented to EERI’s board, which votes to adopt the statements as official EERI positions.
- Statements that are not approved can be revised for the next opportunity to review statements.
Ongoing basis
- Once a year, the committee has a meeting focused on adopting new policy position statements.
- Existing policy position statements are reviewed and must be readopted every three years.
