The first phone book entry I can find for Aberbeeg is in 1907, The exchange was run by the post office rather than the NTC (National Telephone Company)
The switchboard was a CBS1, which was installed in the post office in ? street ?
By 1931 there were still only 16 subs ( the same as in 1907)
Why was there so little net growth ? Possibly because some of the six bells subs had moved to the abertillery exchange ?
In 1943 all Llanhilleth exchange subs moved to Aberbeeg, when Llanhilleth exchange closed and the switchboard was a CBS 2
Before 1956 calls between Aberbeeg Subs were all via the operator in the post office
In 1956 an automatic UAX13 was installed in the building pictured above, the 104 subs were now able to dial each other automatically.
In 1957 the Std system commenced in 1958 was completed allowing direct dialling between all uk subscribers.
