Well, I can't really say I'm surprised that none of the candidates ever mention artists in their lists of Americans they are going to benefit. No financial aid for artists, no equal treatment or protection from foreign competition or tax breaks. No mention of special benefits or minimum wages, and certainly no free art supplies. And there's not going to be a cabinet level position to deal with artist issues, or a special commission to study the impact of art on society. Not even a 'thank you' for all the great and beautiful and inspiring art that artists surround us with. No, I'm not surprised. Artists are just going to have to keep doing it on their own without any promises from the politicians. Oh, well.
