Edi Kurniawan received B.Eng. degree (cumlaude) from Gadjah Mada University, Indonesia, in 2003, and M.Eng degree from the University of Adelaide, Australia, in 2009, both in electrical and electronics engineering. He completed his PhD in 2013 from Swinburne University of Technology, Australia, in the field of control system.
From 2003 to 2004, he worked for LG Electronics Display Devices Indonesia as a Research and Development Staff. From Feb 2005 to April 2016, he was with the Research Center for Informatics, Indonesian Institute of Sciences (LIPI), Indonesia. He was a 2016/2017 US - ASEAN Science and Technology Fellow, where he was temporarily placed in the Ministry of Research, Technology, and Higher Education (Menristekdikti) , for contributing knowledge and analytical skills in the process of science, technology, and innovation policy-making. From May 2016 to September 2021, he has been with the Research Center for Physics, Indonesian Institute of Sciences (LIPI). He is currently with the Control and Precision Measurement Research Group, Research Centre for Photonics, National Research and Innovation Agency (BRIN).
During his academic career, he spent sometimes as a visiting research fellow at European Organization for Nuclear Research (2014) - Switzerland, , Royal Melbourne Institute of Technology (2015) - Australia, Swinburne University of Technology (2015) in Australia, and Technische Universitat Berlin (2015) - Germany. He was a 2018 Fulbright Scholar at Northern Arizona University, Arizona, USA. He was also an awardee of Asian Science Diplomat (ASD) 2021. And most recently, he received an award as BRIN's best researcher for research achievements at the Nanotechnology and Materials Research Organization in 2022.
His research interests include learning control, robust control, adaptive control, speech recognition, signal and image processing, and deep learning. He has served as a reviewer for many reputable international journals, such as IEEE Trans. on Industrial Electronics, IEEE Trans. on Systems, Man and Cybernetics: Systems, IEEE Trans on Mechatronics, Mechanical Systems and Signal Processing, Nonlinear Dynamics, Int. J. of Robust and Nonlinear Control, Asian J. of Control, Int. J. of Systems Science, IEEE Access, and Int. J. of Adaptive Control and Signal Processing, among many others. He has also been invited to serve as organizing committee member, conference chair, and reviewer for several international conferences.
