Student will earn grade in this course based on the following requirements.

1) Attendance and participation (10%)

2) Assignment problem sets (30%)

3) A midterm and a final (each 30%)

Arriving late or leaving early without a valid excuse will count as half of an absence, if I notice. In-class discussion is strongly encouraged. I don't even mind interruption as long as it doesn't get out of hand. Please ensure an effective learning environment for the whole class by refraining from texting, surfing on the web, using your cell phone, etc. Laptops for note-taking are okay, but it is up to you to restrict its use to coursework.

Problem sets will be assigned roughly every week. Joint work is not permitted. You may discuss ideas, help each other with material in general, but, ultimately, your homework has to be a unique written (or typed) piece. Late homework gets no credit without a valid excuse.

There will be no option to make up the final exam except in the case of a valid/documented absence on the scheduled exam date, and you must provide the proof to me within 48 hours of the exam or you will receive a zero for it. Depending on the nature of the absence, a make-up exam will be given, or the weight of the missed midterm will be shifted to the final exam. By the end of the course, students will earn official letter grades calculated from the initial percentage basis.

Academic Integrity Policy

Students and all others who work with information, ideas, texts, images, music, inventions, and other intellectual property owe their audience and sources accuracy and honesty in using, crediting, and citing sources. As a community of intellectual and professional workers, the College recognizes its responsibility for providing instruction in information literacy and academic integrity, offering models of good practice, and responding vigilantly and appropriately to infractions of academic integrity. Accordingly, academic dishonesty is prohibited in The City University of New York and at New York City College of Technology and is punishable by penalties, including failing grades, suspension, and expulsion. The complete text of the College policy on Academic Integrity may be found in the catalog.
