Raidighi water treatment plants

Sundarbans on the bay of Bengal is sitting on world's most delicate ecological balance. Villagers are fed up with recurrent stomach ailments caused by consumption of contaminated water for years. Hand pumps, the only source of drinking water are not only contaminated but also have dissolved iron and salinity rendering water unsafe for drinking.

According to a recent United nation report more than three million people in the world die due to contaminated water. In India over one million persons die of water born diseases each year.

Keeping health for the people of Sunderbans means supply of safe drinking water.

We installed three water filter plants in our school premises at Srifaltala, Purbajata and Naba Kishalay School at Sonatikari run by Raidighi branch of EDLTWS.

In Srifaltala 150 families and 300 school children & in Purbajata 100 family and 340 students will be benefited. At Naba Kishalay school 100 families and 300 students will use safe water.

These water treatment plant will supply Bacteria, Iron and Arsenic free drinking water. .

Beneficiary families will pay for running cost including electricity bill, repair etc.

Capital cost of these two plants have been provided by Ecoles De La Terre Association Switzerland
