Charlie Ford was the nephew of Lily Cottle (the son of her sister Kate and a Job Ford). Thus he was the first cousin, once-removed, of this site's author. He was born in County Durham in September 1895 and was killed in action on the 18th of February 1917.
He was a private in the Cameronian Scottish Rifles. In World War I there were 27 battalions. Over 7,000 Cameronians lost their lives and a magnificent memorial in Kelvingrove, Glasgow, commemorates this.
