About Us
In 1988 when the ELCA and a newly constituted Northeastern PA Synod came into existence, the East Berks Mission District was formed, incorporating the mission and congregations.
To the best of our knowledge, the East Berks Mission District is one of the most organized and active districts within the Evangelical Lutheran Church in America.
There are four priorities for mission:
Multiply congregational effectiveness by fostering partnerships, sharing resources and providing a communications focal point.
Help youth realize potential (academically, socially, spiritually) and grow in a community of faith.
Strengthen the impact district congregations make in providing for those in need.
Provide opportunities for individuals to experience fellowship through service beyond their congregations
The EBMD staff is overseen by a 12 person Council, consisting of Pastors and Laity within the District, elected at the District’s Spring Assembly (usually held in May). Council members serve three-year terms. Current leadership includes:
Dean: Rev. Anja Stuckenberger astuckenberger@gmail.com
Synod Staff Liaison: Rev. Mary Gade, Bishop's Assistant
Liason members with voice but no vote represent the following organizations:
Northeastern Pennsylvania Synod (NEPS)
Hospital Visitation Committee
Diakon Lutheran Social Ministries
Lutheran Youth Fellowship
