Evanston Bicycle Club

Lorel Park Bicycle Club

I started riding with clubs when Tony and I created the Lorel Park Bicycle around 1991. We started out as a very friendly club, waiting to regroup when riders could not keep up. Over the years more and more faster and faster riders joined. Each year we go faster, usually faster than I can ride! I drop out of the pace line at around 23 mph.

Around 2008 I started riding with a bunch of teacher friends and a few others, known as the Kibitzers. We ride at a comfortable speed of around 13 mph. We wait for those who might not keep up if we go a little faster. I do not go on their bike-camping trips to the West Coast, the Rockies, or Europe. I do not like sleeping on the ground and I like mosquitoes even less.

In late 2012 I joined the Evanston Bike Club. I ride with very fast riders there. My speed is increasing. It is scary. In 2020 I joined the Board of EBC. Every year I volunteer to paint the route markings on the road for the North Shore Century. Sadly we did not have one in 2020 because of Covid.
