Some family photos

The photos begin with the Phillips family, and then the page ends with a couple of photos from the Williams and Harries families.

Vera's cousin, Philip Walter Phillips, London 1939, son of John Phillips (below).

Phillip Phillips (1864-1947), married Margaret Ann Cribb in 1889. He worked as an accountant, and then moved to Swansea docks, where he was, in 1914, Chief Assistant to the Clerk, and then, from at least 1917, “General Manager of Docks, Railways and Estate and Statutory Harbour Master” until 1923. Phillip and Margaret lived in Bryn Road, Swansea, and then Brynmill Crescent. They had three daughters: Doris, Olive and Constance May who, in 1920, married Sir Archibald Rowlands (1892-1953, on whom see https://biography.wales/article/s2-ROWL-ARC-1892 with more at https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Archibald_Rowlands

About 1942, Phillip, Margaret and Doris moved to New Quay, and lived in 5, Church Street. He died in 1947 and she in 1949.






John Phillips (1831-1877), son of Josiah and Rachel, of Cwmllyfri farm. John was the brother of Vera's grandfather, William Phillips.

John married Hannah Walters in 1859 at Haverfordwest St Marys. They ran the Hope and Anchor hotel at Neath Abbey until at least 1891. John and Hannah had seven children, including Phillip Phillips (above).

John was the eldest son of Pentowyn, and a first cousin to Hannah Williams of Waunfwlchan, Dylan's maternal grandmother. Elizabeth was a second cousin to Vera's father, Thomas Phillips.


Williams and Harries



Willie Davies of Penclawdd, who played for Swansea, Wales and Bradford Northern. He was in the winning Swansea side in 1935 against the All Blacks, together with his cousin, Haydn Tanner.

Willie was the grt-grandson of Rachel Phillips of Cwmllyfri, sister of William Phillips, Vera’s grandfather.

Thomas and Anne Williams of Waunfwlchan, Dylan's great-grandparents. Anne was the daughter of Evan and Anne Harry/Harries/ Thomas of Plas Isaf, Llanybri.

Jane Harries nee Daniel was the love child of Sarah Williams of Pen-y-Coed, the sister of Dylan’s grt-grandfather, Thomas Williams of Waunfwlchan farm.

Jane married John Harries, the brother of Anne Williams nee Harries of Waunfwlchan, Dylan’s grt-grandmother.
