Public Outreach

General Information

The best observing nights are cold so make sure you wear warm clothing, especially warm footwear and head gear.

Please note that we do not have toilet facilities.

Public Nights

Public nights are held each Sunday night during Night Time Savings starting at 7:30pm and generally finishing around 9pm (depending on demand).

Admission fees are $5 per person. There is no charge for members.

There is no fixed program so you may arrive at your convenience. The focus is on viewing astronomical objects using the society's telescopes. Opportunities may be available to try your hand at astrophotography if you have a suitable SLR camera.

Group Nights

Group nights provide an opportunity for small groups (we can handle 10 - 40 people) to learn about astronomy and view astronomical objects using our equipment.

Sessions start at 7pm and last around one hour. They are held regardless of weather. If the night is not suitable for viewing we may hand out passes for use at a public night.

Sessions are tailored to the group, but normally involve a group discussion about astronomy and demonstrations of astronomical phenomena, and a viewing session using our equipment.
