I am President and Vice Chancellor of the University of Manchester and Professor of Political Philosophy (since August 2024). I did my BA (hons) at McGill, in Montréal, where I grew up, and my M.Sc. and PhD at the London School of Economics and Political Science.
I was previously Professor of Political Philosophy at the University of Sydney (where I remain Professor Emeritus), and also served in a number of academic leadership roles, including Head of the School of Humanities (2007-9), Dean of the Faculty of Arts and Social Sciences (2010-15), and Deputy Vice Chancellor (Research) from 2015-2022.
This site contains a selection of recent and forthcoming papers. For more complete details, see my University of Manchester profile, Phil Papers and academia.edu sites too.
I also enjoy writing for broader audiences beyond academia. You can find some of these contributions under 'Public Philosophy' in the menu to the left.
