These are resources shared at Mercer International Middle School for using LinguaFolio Online as a tool for student self-assessment and teacher formative assessment for developing language proficiency.
Session 1 November 5, 2014
Michele modeled presenting LFO to students based on the example STARTALK Lesson Plan (below).
Each participant (teacher) got their own LinguaFolio Online (learner/student) account) and Getting Started Sheet.
TIP: It is vital for teachers to have personal experience with using LFO before introducing it to their students.
We modeled the "student experience" of using LFO.
Session 2 November 13, 2014
Michele gave each teacher a Teacher account to use with their classes.
We suggested identifying which students to start with -- probably not the entire class since the teachers won't have time to take them all to the lab regularly. Maybe heritage language students or students who need encouragement to produce more writing or speaking.
Use the LFO_Accounts_Template to set up your student accounts, then copy and paste (or copy to .csv file) into LFO.
NCSSFL-ACTFL Can-Do Statements — Pages 4-5 (I think) have the LFO overview statements. Print a copy of these for the students to use to determine what proficiency level they thing they are at (and record that on the Getting Started sheet matrix) BEFORE they start using the tool.
