Justin Gund

Justin Gund has been the director of bands and choirs at Dwight Township High School since 2013.  He is in charge of the Marching Trojans, Concert Band, Jazz Band, Pep Band, Guitar I, Concert Choir, treble choir, and vocal and pit band for the musicals.  During his tenure the band has been the house band 4 times at an IHSA State Basketball or Volleyball event. They have also marched in the Chicago St. Patrick’s Day Parade.  They have started going to IHSA Organizational contest and have consistently received Division I ratings. In 2017 they finished 10th in the state in class C Sweepstakes. In 2018 they finished 9th in the state in Class C Sweepstakes. In the spring of 2019 the band and choir performed at Walt Disney World.

Prior to his tenure at Dwight he taught at Grace Baptist Academy from 2010-2013.  During his time there he increased band enrollment and reinstated the Crusader Pep Band.

From 2011-2013 and again starting in 2018 Justin was an adjunct professor at Olivet Nazarene University. He is in charge of the trombone studio and also teaches Instrumental Methods for vocal majors.

In 2008-2009 Justin taught at Morris Community High School. He was in charge of the Marching Redskins, two concert bands, jazz band, pep band, madrigal brass, madrigal recorders, and History of Rock and Roll.

From 2004-2008 he taught at Marengo Community High School.  By the end of his tenure enrollment had increased to two curricular concert bands, two curricular choirs, percussion class, vocal and pit for the musical, jazz band, and pep band.  While there he also ran the Marengo Settler’s Days marching competition.

He has a BME from Illinois State University where he performed with the Big Red Marching Machine as well as the Wind Symphony, Symphony Orchestra, and Jazz Band I. Graduate courses have been taken at Northern Illinois University, VanderCook, and Eastern Illinois University.

Justin enjoys playing trombone in the River Valley Wind Ensemble, Kankakee Valley Symphony Orchestra, Kankakee Municipal Band, and other Kankakee area groups.  He also enjoys spending time with his loving wife, two sons, and two dogs.
